

How to become a California Notary Public
Qualifications:
- Be at least 18 years old
- There is no age limitation other than 18.
- Take a 6-hour course on California Notary Law. All notary applicants must take an additional 3 hour notary law update course every 4 years thereafter in order to be re-commissioned.
- There are 3 ways to complete this requirement:
- Take a one-day seminar with a company approved by the Secretary of State. The state exam is given at each of our seminar locations after the seminar. The Notary seminar begins around 9:00am and the state exam begins around 4:30pm.
- If you prefer, you may choose to take an approved Home-Study course.
- You may choose to take an On-line Notary Course.
- Pass a test of 30 questions which are multiple choice.
- All notary applicants must pass a notary exam which consists of 30 questions relating to notary law. You will have up to 50 minutes to take the exam and must recieve a passing score of 70% or greater.
- All students attending our seminar are automatically registered for the notary exam. Home Study students and On-Line students must pre-register with us prior to attending our location in order to take the exam.
- Pass a criminal background check
- All notary applicants will be required to submit fingerprints via live-scan to both the FBI and the DOJ prior to application approval. The FBI and DOJ will complete a criminal background check for misdemeanors and felonies.

Fees, Costs and Important Information
The Seminar fee includes all of the necessary seminar texts, a free seminar study guide if you wish to prepare in advance of the seminar including 4-free on-line sample exams and a "Check Your Notary Knowledge" exam, the signed Certificate of Completion, immediate access to our notary message board, a $100 discount on any future loan signing class, free access to the APN&CSA logo for your resume or business card and finally, but not least of all, our guarantee to pass the state exam.
Beginning 2008, notary applicants are also required to submit fingerprints via live-scan and a passport style photo prior to the application approval by the Secretary of State. Complete your 6-hour class, take your passport photo (optional) and take your state notary exam with us all in the same day. We even have an option of live-scan fingerprinting to help you complete your entire process with live-scan submission all on the same day in one easy step.
The seminar fee is $125 or if you wish, choose to upgrade your seminar with the many supplies and services offered in our Gold Package seminar. This option only costs $74.95 more and if you elect this option, all of your included notary supplies will be ready for you on the day of the class.
*Our Southern California locations have the live scan option available for your convenience and we are hoping to bring this option to our Central and Northern California classes soon.
